Freelance Writing Course: What you can learn from me

For the past few months, dating back to 2010, my freelance writing course has been pretty full. The reason for this is simple: more and more members are staying onboard for an extended period of time.

Most new members email me a few questions before signing up. The most common is: what can I learn from you?

Here is a portion of one of the first emails I send to new members:

Monday – Let’s Talk Money
Tuesday – Expand your Offerings
Wednesday – Find New Work/Clients
Thursday – Show me Samples
Friday – The Business Side of Things

By focusing on a particular subject everyday it is easy for me, as well as all my students, to stay on track. For example, every Thursday I request samples of recently completed work. From there, we discuss the project, including all the details, to ensure that everything is perfect and ready for delivery.

Are you ready to get involved? I only have one spot open at this time, and it probably won’t last for more than a day. To take this spot, shoot me an email!

Do I need a Website for my Freelance Writing Services?

When I started my freelance writing career more than five years ago one of my top priorities was to create a website. At the time I did not know much about web design, so I opted to hire somebody to create my site. While I don’t rely much on this site anymore, it still brings in a few clients every year.

Believe it or not, many people contact me asking if they really need a website for their freelance writing services. This may not be required, but in my opinion it is very important. Without a site you are missing out on many benefits.

I use my freelance writing “service site” for several things. Above all else, it is a place I can send potential clients to check out my services, testimonials, etc. Along with this, it also lists out all my contact information including my phone number. In short, it gives people the chance to get in touch with me via email or phone. The more people I speak with the more work I receive.

Although I have never been a big fan, some people include samples on their website. I prefer to email relevant samples after speaking with a potential client, but this does not mean it is the right way of doing things. If you want to add a few samples more power to you. Just make sure it is your best work.

In today’s day and age I strongly urge every freelance writer to have a website. This year alone, I have assisted five members of my freelance writing course with creating a basic site. It does not have to be anything special. As long as it looks professional and includes all the right information you are well on your way.

Don’t hold yourself back because you are too lazy to create a site or too cheap to hire the right help.

Freelance Writing in the New Year

It is already January 10th! How is your freelance writing coming along in the new year? If you are anything like me, things have been quite busy over the first 10 days of 2011. Fortunately, being busy as a freelance writer is always a good thing.

Although 2011 is already here and moving along, there is still time to get organized for the months to come.

To get started, check out these posts from December:

Ways to Prepare for the New Year Today
Chris, I need to earn more Money
Three Tasks to Complete this December

Over the past couple of weeks I have had the pleasure of speaking with many freelancers who said the advice from the posts above really got them in the right frame of mind for the new year. You may be a little bit behind at this point, but there is still time to catch-up.

I have big plans for ChrisBlogging.com over the next 12 months. In addition to providing content for beginners and advanced writers, I have some new features to introduce within my freelance writing course.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the direction of the blog and what you want me to discuss in 2011. Feel free to contact me today with suggestions, comments, and questions.
